Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pedigree Ragdoll kitten?
Ragdolls are a pedigree breed originally developed in the 1960s and are best known for their affectionate, placid and people-oriented temperament. They are often described as “puppy-like” due to their tendency to follow their owners from room to room and their relaxed nature when handled.
A pedigree Ragdoll kitten should come from a registered breeder who prioritises:
- health
- temperament
- ethical breeding practices
- and breed preservation
A responsibly bred pedigree Ragdoll kitten should leave:
- pedigree registered with a recognised cat governing body
- microchipped
- vaccinated
- desexed unless sold on approved breeding terms
- from health tested breeding lines
- well socialised and raised within a home environment
At Kdolls Ragdolls, all kittens are registered with ANCATS and raised within our family home with a strong focus on temperament, health and ethical breeding practices.
Why are kittens desexed before leaving? Is this safe?
Yes — early-age desexing is safe when performed by an experienced veterinarian and is widely practiced by ethical registered breeders.
At Kdolls Ragdolls, all kittens are desexed prior to leaving for their new homes as part of our commitment to ethical breeding practices and responsible kitten placement.
Kittens are only desexed once they have reached an appropriate weight as determined by our veterinarian.
Early desexing:
- prevents accidental breeding
- reduces spraying and calling behaviours
- allows kittens to recover while still with their mother and siblings
- ensures kittens transition into their new homes already fully prepared as companions
The wellbeing of our kittens is always our priority and we work closely with experienced veterinarians throughout this process.
What health testing do you do?
Health and temperament are the foundation of our breeding program.
All breeding cats at Kdolls Ragdolls undergo comprehensive DNA health testing through Orivet prior to breeding.
This includes screening for important inherited conditions relevant to the Ragdoll breed including:
- HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy)
- PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease)
Health testing plays an important role in helping breeders make informed and responsible breeding decisions aimed at improving the long-term health and wellbeing of future generations.
Alongside DNA testing, we also carefully assess temperament, structure, overall health and pedigree compatibility when planning our breeding program.
While no breeder can ever guarantee a kitten will never experience health concerns throughout its lifetime, ethical breeding practices and appropriate health screening help significantly reduce the risk of inherited disease.
